Dr. Jahangir Ahmad

Life History

Dr. Jahangir Ahmad, a promising scholar born into the embrace of a humble Muslim family in the Deoghar district of Jharkhand in1980, which was then a part of Bihar, embarked upon a remarkable journey of academic and intellectual pursuit in 1993.

His early education bore the imprint of devotion and rigorous study at Al-jamiatul Ashrafia, a venerable institution nestled in the tranquil environs of Mubarakpur in Azamgarh district of Uttar Pradesh. It was here that he delved deep into the treasure trove of Darse Nizami, a rich tapestry of academic and religious knowledge.

With an insatiable thirst for wisdom, he then ventured to the bustling city of Delhi, where he imbibed the essence of literary excellence at Jamia Millia Islamia, a Central University adorned with the coveted A++ NAAC accreditation. It was here that he earned his Graduation and M.A. in Urdu Literature and Language, crafting his intellectual prowess amidst the mesmerizing environment of this University.

But his pursuit of knowledge did not cease there. Driven by an unquenchable thirst within, he set forth to the citadel of scholarship known as Jawaharlal Nehru University, a sanctuary of learning revered not only in India but across the globe. Here, he meticulously crafted his academic acumen, achieving the coveted milestones of M. Phil and Ph.D.

His M. Phil research, centered on the intricate art of Novelette writing in Urdu literature, with a particular focus on the oeuvre of Joginder Paul, a luminary of Urdu fiction. His dissertation was a profound exploration, shedding light on the nuances of this literary genre.

For his Ph.D., Dr. Jahangir Ahmad ventured into the realm of “Urdu Novel Ki Sheriyat,” a profound inquiry into the poetics of prose, especially within the context of Urdu novels. This work comprised five illustrious chapters, each a testament to his analytical and critical prowess. He drew upon the intellectual legacy of luminaries such as Vladimir Propp, Claude Levi Strauss, Herman Northrop Frye, AJ Greimas, and Tzvetan Todorov, infusing his work with a depth of scholarship that continues to inspire. His both M. Phil and Ph. D. theses have been published with the financial assistance of National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language, an autonomous body of Ministry of Education, Government of India and getting appreciated by readers and critiques.

In the realm of professional education, he honed his skills with a PG Diploma in Mass Media from Jamia Millia Islamia in 2005. This led him to join the Sahara India Group as a Stringer, where he lent his expertise to the Urdu Daily ‘Roznama Rashtriya Sahara,’ serving as a member of the Editorial Board.

In 2009, his journey led him to the Electronic Media Monitoring Centre under the aegis of the Information & Broadcasting Ministry, where he diligently served as an Electronic Media Monitor. His dedication and commitment soon led to his elevation to the position of Senior Monitor in 2012, where he remained steadfast until 2021. Meanwhile, he also pursued his M.A. in Mass Communication through distance mode from Guru Jambheshwar University of Science & Technology and qualified National Eligibility Test (NET) in the subject as well.

Not content with his academic and professional achievements, Dr. Jahangir Ahmad continued to grace the literary world with his erudition. He penned numerous research articles in both national and international publications, including ‘Akkas International’ in Pakistan, ‘Urdu Dunya,’ ‘Aajkal,’ ‘Akse Adab,’ ‘Tarikhe Adab-e-Urdu,’ and ‘Aalami Sahara.’ His contributions extended to the production of more than 50 Explainers and Factsheets during his tenure with Research Unit (October 2021-April 2024), Press Information Bureau (PIB), Information & Broadcasting Ministry, GoI.

In the present moment, Dr. Jahangir Ahmad stands as a beacon of knowledge and research, serving as Assistant Professor of Urdu in R.S. More College, Govindpur, Dhanbad, Jharkhand. He has also graced the airwaves as an Announcer cum Compere in All India Radio’s External Services Division. Moreover, his editorial acumen shone brightly as he served as a Casual Editor for the monthly Government magazine ‘Yojana’ (Urdu) and as a revered panellist Translator for the Government magazine ‘Employment News’.

In the tapestry of Urdu literature and academia, Dr. Jahangir Ahmad’s name gleams as a constellation of erudition, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the pursuit of knowledge. His contributions continue to illuminate the path for future generations of scholars, beckoning them to explore new horizons in the field.
